Memories of Castle Levan
From time to time we're delighted to hear stories from folks who used to live around Castle Levan in the days when it was still a ruin. Here's a story from Anne (McFadden) Busk who now lives in Canada.

"I have been looking at all the information on Castle Levan and it brings back a lot of memories. As a young girl growing up in Trumpethill our playground was the Castle Levan area with it's many woods and mysteries.

We would dare each other to go into the castle and make it up those spiral broken stairs at the back, I laugh to think of how terrified we were that “The White Lady” would come behind us and throw us off of the wall that was an open gapen ruin on the top floor.
We spent many, many hours there. To the left of the entrance that we used to use there was one room at the back that was still pretty well intact.

The gypsies who used to camp in the fields would use that particular place for a little bit of romance and would scare the living daylights out of us if we dared to venture in there.

I am glad that it has been restored and that your family is living there.

I live in Canada now but will be visiting Gourock in late May with my husband and three children and will hopefully get to tell them my stories about Castle Levan.

I hope you don't mind me writing but I was so intrigued by the whole thing with the photos and everything and felt compelled to write to you.

Believe me we spent many a day there trying to ride on the donkeys behind the Hotel there and just being kids having a wonderful time, so anything I can add for you will be my pleasure."
